Two Powerful Sources of Customers for Your Notary Business

Master these two strategies, and your phone will keep ringing with new customers every day. As a mobile notary, you provide an essential service to your community—one that keeps the wheels of commerce rolling and serves as the last line of defense against mortgage fraud and identity theft.

This means people need your services, and in today’s convenience economy, they want those services to be easy and fast to access.

Where do your customers come from? Consider these the twin engines of your notary business:

Online Visibility: Your ability to show up when people search for a notary.

Your Network: Your ability to stay top-of-mind with warm and cold prospects.

Today, we’re going to focus on the first engine: online visibility.

This is the engine that can quietly work behind the scenes, helping customers find you while you focus on growing other parts of your business.

Let’s break it down into five actionable strategies to boost your online visibility.

#1: Optimize Your Google Business Profile (GBP)

If you do nothing else to improve your visibility, start here. Google Business Profile (GBP) is the number one lead-generation tool for mobile notaries, and it’s 100% free to claim and set up.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • You do not need a website to start. Websites help, but they aren’t required.
  • You can keep your home address private—Google accommodates service-based businesses like ours.
  • To claim your free GBP, visit https://www.google.com/business/. Follow the steps to set up a basic profile, but don’t stop there.

The key to success is to fully optimize your profile:

  • List all your services (loan signings, trust delivery, apostilles, etc.).
  • Use the Q&A section to answer common questions.
  • Include keywords your customers use to find you (like “mobile notary near me”).
  • Regularly update your profile with posts and positive reviews.

GBP can transform your business because most customers will start their search for notary services with Google. Leverage it, and you’ll position yourself in the top search results when clients are ready to hire.

#2: Enhance Your LinkedIn Profile

LinkedIn matters for two key reasons:

  1. Your dream clients—attorneys, real estate professionals, and business owners—are on LinkedIn.
  2. Prospects will look you up online to verify your legitimacy.

LinkedIn also has massive authority with search engines, which means your profile can rank on page one of Google’s results.

Here’s how to enhance your LinkedIn profile (using the free version):

  • Write a Headline That Pops: Include your state, city, and specialty services. Avoid boring job titles like “Notary Public.” Instead, stand out.
  • Add a Cover Image: Use Canva’s templates to create a professional, branded banner.
  • Optimize Your “About” Section: Detail your services, service area, and contact info. Make it easy for clients to reach you.
  • Activate the “Services” Feature: This lets clients inquire directly about your availability.
  • Engage Thoughtfully: Like, comment, and share posts from prospects and industry leaders. Share content with context for your audience, and contribute meaningfully to conversations.

#3: Optimize Your Professional Directory Profiles

There are dozens of notary directories online, and many offer free profiles. You can never have too many directory listings, so take advantage of the free ones.

If a directory charges a fee, ask other notaries about their results before committing. Here are some paid directories notaries often get business from:

SigningAgent.com

FindANotary.com

Gotary.com

NotaryCafe.com

To optimize your profile:

  • Include a headshot (no logos or pets).
  • Highlight your specializations and certifications.
  • Inject your personality into the description. Stand out in a sea of sameness!

Hiring parties want to know who they’re hiring. A polished, unique profile gives you a competitive edge.

#4: Choose Your Social Media Strategy

Social media can enhance your discoverability and build relationships, but let’s be honest: it’s not always a direct driver of sales. If you’re not ready to dive into social media, focus on GBP, LinkedIn, directories, and your website first.

If you do choose to use social media:

  • Start with the platform you’re most comfortable with.
  • Share your journey, your personality, and valuable content.
  • Use the rhythm: Value, Value, Value, then Ad. Don’t just post about your services—you’ll get ignored.

Sometimes, simply sharing stories of the people you’re helping can generate more attention than any ad.

#5: Build and Optimize Your Website

A website could be your second most valuable asset, after your network. But a basic, unoptimized site won’t cut it.

Here’s what your site needs:

  • Keyword-optimized content: Rank for search terms like “mobile notary [city].”
  • A clear call to action: Make it easy for visitors to contact you.
  • Instant accessibility: Add a chatbot so clients can reach you quickly.
  • Social proof: Include client reviews and testimonials.

If creating a website sounds overwhelming, invest in a professional solution like Notary Marketing Solution or HeyLocal.co—they specialize in websites for notaries.

Bonus Strategy: Google Ads

For those ready to level up, Google Ads can put your business at the top of search results for high-intent keywords like “notary near me” or “apostille services.”

However, Google Ads require effort and strategy:

  • Start small—a $5-$10 daily budget is enough to test the waters.
  • Target your local area and use high-converting keywords.
  • Make sure your landing page is optimized to convert visitors.

If you’re willing to learn the system and continually improve your campaigns, Google Ads can become a consistent pipeline of customers.

Recap It

These five strategies (and bonus Google Ads tip) will help you master the online visibility engine for your notary business:

  1. Optimize Your Google Business Profile
  2. Enhance Your LinkedIn Profile
  3. Leverage Notary Directory Listings
  4. Choose a Social Media Strategy
  5. Build and Optimize Your Website

By focusing on these foundational tools, you’ll ensure that customers can easily find you when they need your services.

Later, we’ll dive into the second engine: outreach to warm and cold prospects.
