Watch My Training About the 8 Habits on YouTube
Notary entrepreneurs often ask me: "What’s the secret to building a thriving business?"
The truth? There is no big secret.
It’s about consistency and showing up every single day. When I was struggling to gain traction in my notary business, I knew I had to do something different. So, I created a set of daily habits, small but powerful actions that eventually led to consistent six-figure income.
I call them my Daily Do's. And now, I’m sharing them with you.
Whether your goal is $2,000/month or the magic $8,333.33/month that adds up to six figures annually ($100k), these habits will put you on the path to sustainable growth.
Your network is your net worth. Expanding your connections by just a few people each day will multiply opportunities. Attend community events, join online forums, or introduce yourself at local businesses. This is actually pretty easy as an active notary because you meet people at every appointment. Go the extra step to add your signers to your database so you can stay in touch.
Pro Tip: Make sure you have a Contact List assembled to help you stay organized.
Speaking of staying in touch, being top of mind is crucial. Every day, reach out to 1-10 people in your existing network (from your warm contact list). A quick "Hope you're doing great!" or sharing an interesting article keeps the relationship warm. Keep it simple. This is about connection, not hard selling. This builds trust and increases the likelihood of referrals.
Pro Tip: Try this favorite text of mine: "Hey! Been thinking about you. What's new? Any time to connect this week or next?"
Your Fab 100 is a curated list of dream clients you want to work with. This is often called your "Prospect List." Take a few minutes a day to research 1-10 of them. Use my 2 in 5 strategy to recognize TWO things you can relate to or talk about in a personalized message in FIVE minutes.
Pro Tip: LinkedIn is a great place to start your research for most prospects. If not, a simple Google search with their name, profession, and city will lead you to the social media, websites, or directories they are on.
After researching, craft a personalized, creative and authentic outreach message. Whether it’s a video message, handwritten note, or email that references something you learned about them or their business, the goal is to stand out. Authenticity wins business.
Pro Tip: Make sure your messages are concise, personalized, bring value to the relationships (IDEA: Talk about who makes a good referral to them), and feature a clear call to action. Avoid talking about yourself (and your E & O insurance) too much, and don;t ask for business too soon in a relationship.
If you’ve already reached out to someone, follow up. Most deals are closed on the 5th to 12th contact, not the first. Schedule your follow up messages with my rhythm: 3 days after the first message; Still nothing? 1 week after the initial message. Still nothing? 4 days after the last message. You're not bothering people! They're just busy or they don't quite see the value of your relationship just yet. Stick with it! The fortune truly is in the follow up.
Pro Tip: Don't take their silence personal. Most prospects are either too busy or just distracted to respond. If they ignore you on one platform, try a different way of communicating for the next round.
Asking for referrals can feel uncomfortable, but it’s essential. You are surrounded by people who love and support you, and you'd be surprised who they know. Connect the dots for them by asking for a referral to your ideal customers. Show them how to support you!
Pro Tip: You can ask virtually anyone in your network for referrals. I believe you already know the person that could connect you to more leads than you can handle. You just have to ask!
In-person or virtual networking events are a great way to expand your network (and your knowledge). There are two main types of events: Client-getting & peer events. Balance the two and change your business forever. Surround yourself with peers and potential clients. There are events happening nearly every day, so you haev lots of options-some free, some paid.
Pro Tip: Use sites like MeetUp.com, Eventbrite.com, LinkedIn.com, and Facebook.com to find events near you.
Content builds trust and authority. Whether it's a short post about notary tips, a LinkedIn article, or a quick video, producing content helps establish you as the go-to expert. Over time, this positions you as a leader in the industry. Plus, sharing yourself and your wisdom gives your prospects a chance to get to know, like, and trust you. When that happens, they're more likely to hire you or refer you.
Pro Tip: You can create one piece of content that can then be distributed on multiple platforms in multiple ways, so this can be easier than you think!
These tasks might seem small, but their power lies in repetition. Completing all eight takes 60-90 minutes max (you get faster & more efficient after awhile). Over time, they compound, creating a consistent pipeline of clients and referrals.
